Thank you for your continued patience while we looked into the Read&Write functionality in Google docs.
As previously shared, Google rolled out a significant update to Google Docs which has impacted Read&Write. These Docs updates roll out gradually, so they may not impact all customers at once but we know many have experienced loss of functionality of the Read&Write features as a result.
A second update has been released by Everway on Monday November 3rd, 2025. The latest version, version 2.1.728 includes the updates:
Collect Highlights and Vocabulary are fixed in Google Docs
Additional improvements to text to speech highlighting, which would sometimes display across multiple lines of text in certain documents
Due to the significant impact of this Google Docs update, we have begun and will continue to release a series of updates prioritizing resolving the most severe issues and progressing until all issues are resolved. You may still experience some minor glitches with certain features. This includes:
General issues:
When clicking in a Doc, the cursor may appear two lines below where you are clicking. Workaround: Adjust the browser zoom level and this resolves the issue.
Check It:
Purple underlines remain after resolving an error.
Purple underlines don’t update as you are typing in a document.
Google’s built-in spelling and grammar errors appear on top of or at the same time as Check It underlines.
Text to Speech
Yellow and blue highlighting while reading text aloud may not display correctly on some documents.
Alt text cannot be read continuously on the page. To read an image with alt text, users will need to click on the image and click the Play button.
Blue highlighting by word is tighter around the text as it’s read, and does not have rounded edges like it did previously.
Prediction
Two periods or full stops may be added at the ends of sentences.
All issues mentioned above will be fixed in the coming days/weeks, and updates will be made on the status page. We will also continue to share updates as these issues are updated.
If you are not seeing these updated, please check your version of Read&Write. Read&Write for Google Chrome should auto-update to reflect this version (2.1.728), however, if you are not seeing it you can reinstall the extension to push out the update faster. If your extension is managed by your IT department, the Google Admin will need to temporarily allow Read&Write, save the policy and re-force the extension to force out the update out.
